What’s Next?
After celebrating 155 years of Kalama United Methodist Church, one truth stayed with me: buildings may change, but the church continues because people carry the faith forward.
So now comes the question: What’s next?
Our new sermon series, Homecoming, invites us to think not only about welcoming people back, but about making new disciples.
That means relationships matter. Membership matters. Baptism matters. These are not simply church statistics. They are signs that people are choosing to belong, grow in faith, and become part of Christ’s community.
And Kalama already has many doors into those relationships: Young at Heart, our Senior Lunch, connections with the local high school and library, Preschool, and the coming United Methodist Women’s Bazaar. Each one gives us an opportunity to know people beyond Sunday morning and to let them know us.
We also hope that this Christmas we can bring children’s voices into worship, inviting our Preschool families to be part of the season. Sometimes Homecoming begins with something as simple as a child singing, a parent entering the sanctuary, and a new relationship beginning.
Our connection also gives us opportunities to invite others. On October 6, Castle Rock will host a Talent Show—a chance to share gifts, laugh together, and introduce friends to our wider church family.
Kalama has survived fires, storms, and generations of change because people kept asking what God was calling them to do next. Now it is our turn.
Who can you invite? Who needs a church family? Who might be ready for baptism, membership, or simply a first conversation?
Homecoming begins when someone discovers there is a place for them here.
